Digital fundus photography is an invaluable tool which aids the retina specialist in the diagnosis, monitoring, and documentation of many problems that affect the structures of the back of the eye: retina, choroid, macula, optic nerve, and blood vessels. Pictures of the interior surface of the eye are obtained with a specialized camera which combines a low power microscope and camera. This technology allows the physician to educate patients regarding diseases using pictures of their own eyes and to document changes in over time.
