Ocular ultrasonography is a noninvasive diagnostic test which uses high frequency sound waves to produce images from inside the eye. This technology is invaluable to a retinal specialist when the inside of the eye cannot be examined because of dense cataract, cloudy cornea, vitreous blood or inflammation, or other ocular pathology. Ocular ultrasonography can allow for the diagnosis of retinal detachment, intraocular foreign body, or hemorrhage. It is very important for diagnosis and management of ocular tumors.
